Sharing the lessons of fair trade
We were delighted to be asked to speak at an event this week in Abergavenny organised by Hub Cymru and Fairtrade Wales. The “shared learning” event invited different groups from across Wales and beyond who are working in fair trade to come together and share best practice and swap ideas.
Andrew spoke on issues around design and quality control, which we feel are fundamentally important in our mission to encourage customers to see the value in their purchases, rather than looking at it as a “donation” or a charitable endeavour.
Also speaking were Kathryn Sygrove, executive director of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops & Suppliers) and Martha Musonza Holman from Love Zimbabwe, with Liz Rees from Hub Cymru rounding off proceedings.
It was a really worthwhile day, with much of the value coming from individual discussion and planning for the future. It is always an encouragement to meet other people who share your vision and passion for a cause, and we hope that the results of the day will bear fruit in many other projects in the months ahead.
Many thanks to Aileen from Fairtrade Wales for inviting us along!
